The Current Version is: 0.26a (Alpha)
First of all, get the latest version of program here.
I DO recommend you to read Online Help and FAQ. Probably, your problem is among the list of known ones. If that is not the case, check the Forum page and try to post it there.

Supported Software and Requirements:
Supported Platforms:
  • Windows XP/2000 are the main supported platforms at the moment
  • Windows 98-ME. Users report compatibility
Requirements:
  • Hardware: about 5-20% more powerful CPU as for playing the same AVI in windows media player.
  • Software:
    • DirectX8.1 and a divX codec. The general rule is. if you are not able to play the complete AVI file in windows media player, 90% chance that your are missing something in your software installation and AVIPreview would not help you here. Check http://www.divx-digest.com on guides how to set up your computer to play AVI files.
    • Mfc42.dll, msvcrt.dll and shdocvw.dll should be in your system32 folder (Most probably they are already where). Will check later if I can distribute them with the software

Major Bugs:
Bugs and Fixes
[1.14.2003] Videos encoded with "Xvid" codec might look very weird during playback. Finally, with the help of the community there is a solution. Check our solution
[12.19.2002] Win98: since I cannot test anything on this platform I am wondering how many of you have this problem, if at all: in menu you go File->Open and nothing happens, Does it happen for .21 as well?. Have you tried drag-n-drop (both on running program and on AVIPreview.exe in Windows Explorer)? Does anyone of win98 users do not experience/solved this problem? Drop me a line or via the forum. [12.20] Yes, that seems to be a bug for win98 users. Use 0.20 instead (the same algorithm and functionality, just different libraries!). Or resort to using drag-n-drop only. AVIPreview .20a.
[11.22.2002] 00009c38 or 0x10009c38 errors (on WinXP ffdshow.ax is also mentioned). The only solution so far is to uninstall FFDSHOW filters, they cause this problem. Check our solution

Hint and Tips:
[12.10.2002] Now ".dat viewer" supports cooperation with AVIPreview. Check FAQ#7: ".dat viewer" setup and download instructions (2 easy steps)
If you open MPEG/MPG file it will play all the ALL video data available. Due to the nature of the download process there are gaps between video data. So the video jumps in time from one usable video chunk to another.
Then you seek in a MPG video file video may stop (even go black) for a while (time and slider go on). This happens then you choose to play a part, which is not yet downloaded (basically you land on a gap between usable already downloaded video). The program plays this gap (effectively nothing) till it gets to downloaded video and everything is back to normal.
[11.6.2002] Sound but no video is explained here.
"DirectX was not able render video stream" ("setting video owner" in 0.17) error is explained here.
"Rendering failed" ("pbuilder->render failed" in 0.17) error is explained  here.
